The United States is interested in using military bases in Australia as part of the AUKUS military alliance, Chinese military expert Song Zhongping said on February 3, the Global Times reported.

According to the expert, in addition to the US transfer of its nuclear submarines to Australia, Washington also has views of Australian military bases on the east coast.

This will give US forces greater flexibility in the event of a military crisis in the region, as they will not be tied to one island of Guam, Sun said.
