The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) again fired at Donetsk and Lugansk using NATO weapons. According to the DPR office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC), the capital of the region has already been subjected to two shellings since the morning.
The first shelling fell on the Kuibyshevsky district of the capital of the region – five 155-mm shells were fired at it. The second arrival was recorded in the Kievsky district of Donetsk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired six shells of 155 mm caliber at him.
In addition, the former LPR ambassador in Moscow, Rodion Miroshnik, announced his arrival in Lugansk. “It is possible that the target of the strike was the territory of the former aviation school for navigators (LVVAUSh),” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Miroshnik later clarified that the navigator school was liquidated at the end of the 90s, the blow was most likely delivered by long-range Storm Shadow missiles, which Ukraine recently received from the UK. There is dense residential development in the impact area, many houses were damaged, he specified.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine delivered the first blow to Luhansk in a long time on May 12. Then, as a result of the shelling by long-range cruise missiles Storm Shadow, the administrative buildings of the inactive enterprises Polipak and Milam were destroyed and damaged, as well as the glazing of six residential buildings was damaged. The strike of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was repeated on the morning of May 13 – the village of Yubileyny on the western outskirts of Lugansk was targeted.
On May 12, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was ready for the UK to send longer-range missiles to Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the supply of such missiles by the UK “a hostile step.” “The Russian side reserves the right to take all necessary measures to neutralize the threats that may arise from the use of British cruise missiles by Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry said in a May 12 statement.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine has been going on since February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia.
