Last week (January 30 – February 5), the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, visited Kyiv. She noted the significant progress achieved by Ukraine in the implementation of the recommendations necessary for the start of negotiations on accession to the EU. In addition, the politician assured that our Ukraine will become a member of the EU.
On February 5, a new stage of EU sanctions against Russia came into effect – a ban on the import of oil products in addition to the December ban on the purchase of Russian oil.
According to experts’ forecasts, by 2030, these restrictions should reduce revenues to the Russian budget by $1 trillion, which will significantly affect Russia’s ability to finance the war against Ukraine.
The Russian authorities are preparing public opinion for the heavy losses that the army will suffer during the new “great offensive” in Ukraine. At the same time, using the example of the Battle of Stalingrad, which was a turning point in World War II, it is explained to Russians that human losses are necessary for victory.
The rhetoric about “German-fascist invaders” has not disappeared. They said that the Russians are again forced to fight with them, because the Western allies provide Ukraine with German tanks.
Ukraine has launched an advocacy campaign against the idea of the International Olympic Committee to return athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions, including the 2024 Summer Olympics, under neutral flags.
