In Hollywood most movies portray small town people of Mississippi as near freaks so most have a certain perspective when they come through. They are greatly surprised when they find out different.
Chief Investigator for Amite County Sheriff’s Department Danny Meaux made an even greater impact of the true nature of small town Mississippians when two helicopters ( HT18 Vigilent Eagles) encountered severe weather during flight to Houston, Texas for a show and had to make emergency landings in nearby small airports. One of the helicopters landed in Crosby Airport, and was immediately lost by the back country area of the land.
Investigator Meaux took it upon himself to escort Laura Wolfe to the Glostonian in Gloster so she could get rooms for Shawn Hill and herself for the night. Once this was taken care of, Meaux escorted Wolfe to Liberty where she dined at the Cotton Gin, bringing her partner a plate when she left since he remained behind with the helicopter.
To many, the story would have ended with Meaux retrieving Hill so he and Wolfe could get a good night’s sleep. But it didn’t. Meaux took it upon himself to lend the two his personal vehicle to use while in the area. Meaux went beyond his call of duty and showed the strangers the generous side of Amite County folk. We are to commend him in his efforts and be proud that we are all living in this part of the world.
